WordPress Multisite Privacy Settings
By default, WordPress Multisite has two site visibility settings under the Settings >> Privacy menu, both related to search engines:
- Allow search engines to index this site
- Ask search engines not to index this site
By keeping your site out of search engines, there are only two ways for a user to find your site: 1. through the site.saumag.edu homepage or 2. by entering the exact address into their browser.
Password Protection
For those that want to prevent any unauthorized traffic from accessing their website, you can enable and configure the Password Protected plugin through your site dashboard (under Plugins in the left menu). Once enabled, you will be able to turn on the protection and enter your selected password under the settings menu (Settings >> Password Protected).
Turning on password protection will require visitors to your website to enter the password before loading any content. Once entered, a cookie will be saved on the visitors browser that will prevent the user from having to enter the password each time they visit the site.
