Business Plan Competition Open to ALL College Students

The Arkansas Governor’s Cup Business Plan Competition is open to all majors. A presenter from the Arkansas Capital will be coming to campus in the next couple of weeks to talk about it and answer questions.

Here is a link to the website which includes dates for the competition. http://arcapital.com/governors-cup/

Here is information shared by the organizers of the event:

A reminder that the Governor’s Cup is for any college or university student enrolled in a degree- or certificate-seeking program this past summer semester, this fall semester, or next semester. It’s not just for business students –students in any program of study on campus may compete with faculty or non-faculty adviser supervision. Teams can also have students from more than one campus.
As has always been the case in the competition’s 19-year history, there are absolutely no parameters for what business ideas can be submitted. If you have a great business idea – you should take the plunge and run it through the competition to see if it would work. There are also cases where teams have taken a business idea from a person or organization outside the campus and run it through the competition. Should this opportunity arise, there are parameters. Be sure to review the competition rules.
Although very rigorous, the Governor’s Cup is a real-world entrepreneurial educational experience students will not forget. What they have learned by competing will serve them well way beyond college, whether they start a business or not. And, along the way, should an opportunity arise to jump on a business idea – they’ll have a head start in knowing what to do to go for it. We’re not saying all this because we put on the Governor’s Cup – this is what we hear year after year from competitors and advisers.
Delta Plastics of Little Rock is on again to be the title sponsor for 2019; providing an all-cash, no-strings-attached prize pool of $154,000.

An industry to consider…Shoe Design

Most major shoe companies employ fashion designers to develop their designs but they also employ 3D modelers to help bring those ideas to life and to help develop prototypes.

Sometimes that requires and understanding of AutoCad, but ZBrush, Mudbox and Maya are also used and useful.

Vans has openings right now for 3D modelers, for instance. http://sites.vans.com/careers/corp/usa/openings/        >>> look under designer

New Balance also has 3D Production Artists positions open: https://jobs.newbalance.com/job/lawrence/3d-production-artist-3/810/8740751

New Balance has a one year 3D Production Artist Internship open as well…  https://jobs.newbalance.com/job/lawrence/3d-production-artist-intern-one-year-internship/810/7582436

UnderArmour internship applications for summer 2019 open November 20 and close December 14. Candidates are encouraged to apply early because the internships are awarded on a rolling basis.

Contract Work…a good place to start

Many game companies hire a bulk of their development teams via specialized staffing companies. While it is hard to track down those staffing serviced (there seems to be some secrecy around it all for some reason), if you do some digging on forums, etc. you can find out who different companies primarily use and contact them directly.

Naught Dog, for instance, uses Yoh staffing services http://www.yoh.com/

Many of the staffing companies you do find don’t list the companies for whom they are staffing, but they do list the categories and skill sets these companies are looking for.
